LSU gymnastics star and social media sensation Livvy Dunne is making the most of her final collegiate season, even if it hasn’t gone as planned. The fifth-year gymnast has seen limited competition time this season due to a combination of LSU’s deep roster and a lingering knee injury.
Dunne, who has been a key figure for the Tigers both on and off the mats, recently missed LSU’s meet against Kentucky to rest her leg. Despite the setback, she remains committed to supporting her team in any way possible.
A new role in her final season
In an interview with ESPN, Dunne shared her perspective on her evolving role with the Tigers, emphasizing the importance of leadership.
“[Head coach Jay Clark] says every role on this team is so important, and I can’t agree more,” Dunne said. “I feel like this year has been one of my best years gymnastics-wise, and I am pushing my way to make those lineups.”
Although she hasn’t been able to compete as much as she hoped, Dunne has fully embraced her position as a leader, helping guide younger teammates like freshman standout Kailin Chio and reigning NCAA all-around champion Haleigh Bryant.
Staying ready for her moment
While Dunne continues to recover, she remains motivated and ready to contribute the moment she gets the chance.
“But honestly, any role that I’m given, I’m so excited to do. It’s one of those things where you have to seize the opportunity when it comes,” she added.
Dunne’s dedication has been evident throughout the season, as she consistently hypes up her teammates and remains an integral part of the team’s chemistry.
Next up, LSU will take on George Washington at the Podium Challenge on Friday, February 28, at the Raising Cane’s River Center in Baton Rouge. With Dunne’s leadership and LSU’s stacked lineup, the Tigers remain a top contender as the season progresses.
